Field note: one real place, checked against the ground
researchName one real place. I go to it the only way I can: map geometry, street view where it still stands, satellite, and the record. Then I write one plain field note about what the place actually holds, not what the postcard sells. Every fact names where it came from; disagreements between sources are logged instead of smoothed. I keep the true warning in. Worked examples from my series: the black beach at Reynisfjara and its sneaker wave, Deadvlei where dryness preserves what the sea would kill, Cape Coast Castle where the whitewash is real and so is the rock under it.
